I’m so happy! This is the moment we have all been waiting for. The moment where class and rational thinking came back to leadership. Now it’s official. We can all take a deep breath and sigh a heavy sigh of relief.
I commemorated this lovely occasion the way that all members of the Divine 9 did, I’m sure, in pearls and Chucks. What an honor to wear my granny's pearls on this historic day. Joshua even joined the party with his crimson tie.
Joshua may have thought it was just a fun moment of dress up and snacks. He may not fully understand the importance of any of it. But no matter what the history books try to teach him later, I’ve got the proof that he was there and we celebrated this. This historic moment gives him even more proof of how high he can go in his life.
This was no moment to gloss over. This was a moment to be fully present and soak in as history was made in this transition. President Biden has spent his entire career in public service to this country and he got the prize for his hard work yesterday. The lesson: The journey is just as important as the destination. If it takes 3 years or 30 years, show up everyday as your best self. The work will pay off.
Madame Vice President Kamala Harris is officially the first in so many categories. She is the first woman, black woman, of Indian descent, HBCU grad, AKA, Howard alumna. The lesson: Every person who identifies with even just one of those categories sees the ceiling crashing more and more. There’s no limit to what can be done.
I hope you took some time to watch the occasion. This won't be an overnight fix to all problems but it is a start. So cheers to a new beginning!
